Thanks

I will try it out in Sept. and hope by then I will have established the questions I need to ask. Pehaps I will get the opportunity to speak to some of the traders to help me make the right decision.

Thanks again

Sorry Brian. I misunderstood but combination of engine and suitcase solar panel sounds the easiest.

I will try 3 days in Sept. with no EHU just to give it a go.

Thanks for your help.

Well I've just ordered a Honda Generator from my local farming outlet at a reasonable price. Less than any one on the net and no delivery charges. Opted for this as we expect to be out through the winter.
I just can't see a solar panel keeping us going when it gets cold. The diesel heatings the biggest problem, the voltage drops and it won't start so no hot water and more important no heating. Without the diesel heating I might of gone for solar but there again we live up in Yorkshire and it's dark by 4.00 in the afternoon and doesn't come light until 8.00 in the morning.
I can at least run the Honda when I need it not when the sun lets me.

There, said me piece and I'm sticking 2 it

Well good luck with your genni.

Think I will try to solar first. hot water runs on gas and electric so i can use the gas to heat the water. Oh Oh but this means longer water pump useage in the shower.

So much to think about.. Perhaps I should have bought a caravan Crying or Very sad Confused

Exclamation It's the diesel heating that is the problem. If u have gas yr OK.

I have been told that because diesel heating was originally from trucks, they have a 24volt system. A 12volt supply is getting to the point when it won't start. I believe below 12.4volts, then ur dead in the water.

I thought that diesel heating was a good idea, Now I'm not so sure, at least with gas u just change the cylinder and off u go again.

AAH that explains it then. If you can get by without using the heating it should be ok.

Looks like I will have to take my muffler and fur gloves.

Come to think of it I have needed them most of the summer anyway.

Perhaps I will take the plunge one day and cross the pond. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Like you I thought the diesel heating would be good. Particularly liked the idea of heating the living area while travelling. I have found it a bit noisey and I am also concerned incase it disturbs my neighbours on site.

have you had any complaints. I have only used it 2/3 times and only for 10 minutes at time. It is much hotter and more efficient than gas blown air heating. What do you tihink?

They do both 12V and 24V variants, so although they are used in trucks, they are a different voltage.
