Email notifications for new PMs are often quite slow - some arrive hours after the actual PM.

I therefore try to rely on the little squelching sound my machine makes when a new PM arrives (since the top panel with the illuminated button is usually out of view).

Does anybody know where I can find the link to the current sound file so I can replace it with a 100db klaxon!! Shocked Shocked

Thanks in advance.

Hi ZebeDave

Do you mean where the actual sound files are (C:\WINDOWS\Media on a XP machine), or do you mean where you can change them? (start : Control Panel : Sounds and Audio Devices : Sounds tab)

Hi Gerald

Thanks. Very Happy

I know how to change the file, but can't find the directory it's stored in.

I'm using XP Pro by the way.

Cheers

Hi Dave

I'm using XP Pro by the way. Me too Crying or Very sad

The main sound files are in C:\WINDOWS\Media on mine, with Office sounds in C:\WINDOWS\Media\Microsoft Office 2000. Yours should be something like.

Thanks Gerald Very Happy Very Happy

I think it's either Balloon.wav or Information Bar.wav

I'll replace them one at a time and wait for the next PM. That's probably easiest.

Enjoy Garda - lucky beggar.

Found it.

Well, one way of doing it anyway, which might be useful for others so I'll give the details.

When a pop-up arrives I've got my Google toolbar set to block it, and warn me with its little warning bar. It also makes a tiny little sound, which I could hardly hear against the traffic.

I took Gerald's advice and in C:/Windows/Media I exchanged Windows XP Pop-up Blocked.wav for a more suitable sound file.

Now I get an audible signal as soon as a PM arrives.

(It works, and thanks to Greenie who didn't realise she was helping me just now, as I kept replying to her PM with daft comments to keep her coming back.

Thanks Greenie, the testing session worked a treat.)

Whoops - forgot the smileys. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I knew that could hear your chuffing brain cell bouncing round louder than the notifying!

Service with a grimace!
