Should I try Saga?

You could, but then you will be inundated with masses of their *stuff* which you didn't ask for, or have any interest in, for *years* even if you do not insure with them............ the voice of experience here! I would never give Saga any of my business for anything.........

Essex Girl is now jittery about venturing into the wild regions of the north where they speak the Queen's English with a funny accent, eat chip butties and beat their wives! I shall be eager to buy anything that will secure my escape down the M1 with breakneck speed, back to civilisation!

I am now going to have a sleepless night worrying about dodgy conversions, damp meters, HP defaulters and sleezy salesmen, not to mention Saga pursuing me until my untimely demise with everything from walking sticks to portable commodes!!

No problem, essex girls are'nt all blonde!

Don't part with money until you have had an AA or RAC report but that only covers the van side, not habitation. HPI report covers finance outstanding and damage history.

Good luck

Peter

Peter, how do I get an HPI report (I don't even know the registration yet)? I belong to the AA - do I 'phone them and ask for them to view the van the same time I view it. Bit short notice now.

Hi,

IF you like it, buy it on condition that it has an AA report and subject to HPI.

It does depend on what the MH looks and drives like when you get there especially if you are taking a friend.

Damp is pretty obvious and not likely on a Panel Van only coachbuilts could suffer that.

Check that all the appliances work and that everything is all there.

Your not going to pay and take it away anyway even if you love it to death.

Regards and good luck

Autumn,
Good luck in your quest tomorrow but please be very careful about what you are buying. If you have waited a long time for this moment then it must be possible to wait a little while longer if you have any doubt about anything.
If it were me I would want every appliance tested and I would be under the van as well as in it, I even looked on the roof of ours when we bought it, I had bought the roof also !!
Regards,
Norman

Well my name aint Peter, but yes, ring the AA and go via the " if you want ...press ..." cobblers.

Search on here, and you'll find a couple of checklists. They're in the RV section I think, but that doent matter. There in exces of 9 pages of checklist, and its both vehicle and habitation area.

print it off. USE IT. its one of those freebies which will/could save you more money than any discount offer.

Go to B&Q, about £14..00 a damp meter. Use this all over the place.
When you look at the motorhome, treat every bit of it with the suspicion you would give to a Politician. And treat the vendor in the same way.
And think that your spending your entire life savings and also money you borrowed from your sweet grey haird old Mum/Auntie/grandmother. whichever. Pretend you're spending 100k even if its 3000 pounds.

be not afraid to take your time. and take it for a test drive.

oh.....it quite fun really. good luck.
