There are NO exceptions to the rules, anyone leaving the UK for more that 4 weeks HAS to inform the relevant gov. depts.

You can go for up too 26 weeks but you MUST inform them and leave contact Nos./address and provide a return date to your main residence.

You cannot leave a forwarding address at its against the law for the post office to redirect benefit mail (its due to stopping fraud they say), thats where a lot of people who think they are being clever fall foul of the rules and regulations and find their benefits stopped when they return home.

Blimey there are loads of full timers and winter in Europe campers who break all the rules then.

Thanks for all the replies, we are contemplating a two month trip, maybe 2-3 times a year, with aim of escaping the worst of the winter. We still have both our daughters living at home and as such were not thinking of becoming a resident anywhere else.

We will contact our local DWP and see if this affects the benefits in any way Sad Seems a bit bizarre when we have both paid in for so long to recieve them!

I can retire anytime after the end of October and a "Grand Trip" has been my dream.

Try looking on the Benefits Agency web site, or ring the helpline number they will give you the correct information and you can make your own mind up dependant on your personal circumstances and needs.

For the full rules and regulations you would be advised to obtain from Age Concern the 35th edition of YOUR RIGHTS--ISBN 978-0-86242-427-5

This book will give you all the relative info. you require too make an informed decision on your rights, for claiming benefits and what you are entitled too, and costs £5.99.

That is very true RR and not knowing the rules will eventually be their downfall.
