When it comes to the extra weight of the water, my thinking is -

The extra weight means that to start the vehicle in motion you need a bit more energy (more fuel)
But whilst it's slowing down the extra weight gives the vehicle more momentum energy and keeps it moving (less fuel). So it evens out a bit.

Someone who is a bit cleaver at physics may be able to put it better than me.

Keep the speed down (that certainly saves fuel for me, less than 60 mph means 31 mpg)
And do not use the brakes to slow down, just slow down gradually. Don't continually accelerate and brake keep a steady pace, don't start off quickly. Switch off the engine as soon as possible, even when in a traffic jam and especially when parked.
Use a tank of fuel and then fill it up at the cheapest forecourt(www.petrolprices.com)

On the other hand if you can afford a motorhome and the tax, insurance, gas, MOT, habitation check and a service. Don't worry about the cost of a drop of diesel, have a great time.

Allan
