Hi,

We are going on holiday in our motorcaravan for the first time later this week, and with the weather being unsettled wondered if it would be safe to have our awning down. i.e. at what strength does the wind become too much for an awning We thought it might be possible to use guy ropes on the corners. Would this make it safe.

No I'm afraid not. The problem is the wind can get under the awning and lift it ripping it from the van with expensive damage. We've seen this happen to a van at the cc whitewater park at Stockton. You can buy a "tie down" which helps but even with this this any more than a "breeze" it is wise to wind your awning in. Very Happy

I use a proper sprung storm strap on mine.It does help but,I would wind it in,in anything more than a stiff breeze. Not worth the risk.

Also be aware that sudden fierce winds can come from no-where in continental Europe with no warning.

Don't leave your awning out when you go out for any length of time ,even if it seems to be flat calm.
