Hi everybody
This has all happened sooo quickly: Back in May buying a motorhome was just one of many mad ideas. I bought “Which Motorhome”, and on their recommendation bought “Go Motorhoming Europe” from vicarious books and read from cover to cover.
Somewhere along the way I found this excellent site and saw mention of the Stratford show – we went and had a great day in and out of lots of different models. At the start of the day I was thinking of a Hymer A Class, my partner really liked the Murvi Morello.
At the end of the day we got to the Brownhills stand and both really liked the Hymer Van 522 (but not the price of £34k for a 2007 model!)
Then went home and looked at prices mobile.de, but because of the strong Euro there didn’t seem any benefit to importing, so I resigned myself to a long period looking in the UK.
Then I found an immaculate low milage 2006 model on outandaboutlive classifieds, which was, sadly. being sold due to the owners ill health. We went to look at it and the charming owners gave us Sunday lunch as we were travelling a long way! It was everything we wanted – like new, with the extras we wanted like solar panel, refillable gas bottle, reversing camera, so we agreed to buy it that day, and picked it up the next weekend, coincidentally the day after I took early retirement.
We’ve christened her “Bluebell” (if my avatar works, no prizes for guessing why) and had a few trips – some early lessons:
• Park level or the water doesn’t drain from the shower or sink, and fridge doesn’t work! I’ve now got spirit levels blutacked to the dashboard and drive around to find as level a spot as possible before getting the ramps out.
• The guy-ropes on porch awnings are there for a reason (ours blew down last week)
• Ikea Trivsel is a great stove-top espresso maker http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80080535
• Motorhomers wave at each other – everyone seems so friendly!
I’ve got lots of questions but I’ll put them over in the Hymer section - bye for now! |

Hi SilverScooby,
Welcome to the site,
We also only started motorhoming this year and love it.
I am sure some of the guys and gals on here can advise on the water draining etc.
Have fun

Hi both...it's good to hear a story with a happy ending and to hear that you are so pleased with your purchase.
I hope you have many happy miles in Bluebell !
