Last year I discovered that the credit limit on my pay monthly mobile phone account was £2000. This means that I can make calls up to that limit EACH MONTH before the phone is cut off.
It also means, if my phone is stolen, that the thief can make calls to that amount too and I am liable for the bill.
I phoned my mobile company and, after quite a lot of argument, got it reduced to £50 - the lowest they would do.
It might be worth doing the same and reducing yours to the maximum amount you think you would use your phone each month. If your phone is lost or stolen abroad it would not take long for the finder to rack up that amount.

Hi Eddie...it would be if we did not get a wonderful pay monthly deal along with our broadband and landline phone. Until last year we had a selection of old phones inherited from our rich sons, with half used cards on them.
A couple of tangles with dear old Fiat Camper Assist in France used them up double quick - and some !

Even if you have a low credit limit it does not stop someone running up a large bill.
If the phone is used abroad the system does not check that you are below the credit limit for your account when you go to make a call. It may then take a few days for those costs to get through to your account meaning the phone can happly be used.

An excellent idea to speak to your mobile contract provider.
I am aware of someone who allowed their datacard (T mobile SIM) to roam willy nilly and surf the net overseas. The cost was phenomenal. Had they had a limit in place like you suggest this would not have happened. Instead, he ended up with a four hundred pound bill.

My phone company assure me it will because the phone will not work when my credit limit is exceeded. They used this to argue that I ought to keep my phone limit higher than £50. We have kept the one on my OH's phone higher in case we really do have to spend more in an emergency abroad.
What it does mean is that, even if the phone is not cut off immediately, I am not liable for any amount used above £50.

I have Derek and have just phoned my service provider to confirm that it says what I think it says - and what I discussed with them last year.
If that credit limit is reached they will attempt to text me but they will then cut off credit whether I respond or not. They are not promising me that the cut off point will be exactly £50 but it should not exceed £53. The only way I can get the credit limit extended is by letter to them. Even if the thief knows the personal details and passwords that I use to access the account on the phone- and he would have to have access to my brain to do that- he still could not extend credit by phone but neither can I.
If I realise my phone has gone then I can phone their lost phone number from a hotel or other mobile and the phone is then blocked immediately ( I carry the IMEI number with me) and I am not liable for any money. I usually do not have anything to pay on my account as I have 300 free minutes and texts.
