Thanks very much guys (including Auntie Sandra!) All but one positive in the main. I put the same question on to another forum and got eight positive and no negative in less then two hours.

Apart from a two year gap when I moved to Pipex broadband I have been with NTL/Virgin for 13 years. My main reason for going back to them was I was having so much trouble with Pipex/BT. I dumped my BT line and now take phone and broadband from Virgin. I had some minor problems getting my phone set up but thank heavens I now single source my coms and the supplier can no long pass the buck over faults.

we are virgin - never had a problem - we have our original router (back from the good old 512k days) and it is reliable, always on and always fast (until our lad starts playing games over it)

we are next to 2 large concentrators though so our net would be good whoever we went with
