Hi Everyone

My wife and I have been looking for a motorhome for over a year and finally plunged for a Hymer C Class Classic 524 - 5/6 berth 2.8JTD.

We take ownership at the end of this month. With a price tag of £35.000 I did not get an aerial fitted, thought we could leave it for a while. What I would like to know is:-

(1.)I have been looking at generators and found that quite a few people use the Honda EX650, what are these like and would you recommend a different one.

(2.)What (if any) cables should I need for parking here and abroad for static use.

(3.)Does anyone use Satellite or Broadband while in the van.

(4.)Would you recommend travelling in the UK, rather than hitting Europe with vengence.

(5.)Thanks for answering a few questions, but I am sure I will have more.

A warm welcome to the both of you! Very Happy

1) Generators, the 650 is an excellent model, and copes adequately with most Motor home requirements, the larger 1000 and 2000 models are the bees knees of gennys, but have a hefty price tag!

2) Hook up cable 25m plus 3 pin mains adapter lead for plugging in at home, reversed polarity lead for some hook ups abroad, 2 pin continental type adapter, again for use abroad, all available at your local caravan store.

3) Satellite systems are varied in mode and price, the same again with Broadband, if you take a look at the left hand navigation bar of the page, under Discuss Motorhomes click on Motorhome forums and you will find the relevant guides in there.

4) A suggestion would be to get used to the new 'van first here in the UK for a while, then go wherever you please! Smile

5) Just ask, others will be along to offer help and guidance in any way they can,... Very Happy

Regards M&D Smile

Hi Ray and Maragaret,
Congratulations on making the decision and welome.

When we bought our 1st Motorhome nearly 2 years ago we took delivery and 5 days later were in France. We bought things we had overlooked on the why south and hit Europe for 6 weeks learning along the way. Its just as easy to get any hicups resolved on the continent as here with some excellant caravanning centres, camp sites and dealers if their are any problems. I think if you you are only going for a couple of weeks then yes, a break in the Uk 1st, otherwise go for it and enjoy.

I would suggest a 2nd power lead for some continental sites to extend if required. Some camp sites have power centralised a long way from pitches and 50 metres is often required at some of the sites we have stayed at if you want a decent spot.

Re Generators, unless you are wild camping in the middle of nowhere you will find you do not really need a generator so I would see how it goes 1st without one and then decide if you need one.

Good luck and look forward to hearing all about your M'home once you get it.
Jon.

Hi Everyone and thanks very much for the very warm welcome and the brilliant advice.

I have purchased a generator a Honda EX650, just hope it will be alright, I understand I will need cables the odd time at camp sites. I will purchase these in the first couple of months. At the moment I cannot wait for it to arrive.

We are away with relatives on the 30th of this month in Spain for 4 days, just a quick break arriving back in the UK on the 4th and pick the van up on the 5th.

Thanks again for all the advice and you can be sure I will be asking some more questions along the way....
