Greetings to you all I am a new boy so be gentle........

Okay, straight in with a question !!

I am looking to purchase my first MH, and having spoken to several "traders" have been told various do and don't` so I thought this is going to be the best place to start.......

I have 3 kids (oh and a wife) ages 5, 9 and 11 and I have approx 10k to spend anyone got any good MH that would suit, I could stretch the budget if need be I have been told by one trader that if I could afford it my best bet would be a CI Riviera 141 LUX (at 21k), which if suits my needs then so be it but I thought I would ask first .........any suggestions !!

You could look at a Swift 630L, big lounge/bed in rear, dinnete/bed and over cab bed for, 20k i think you may get a 2003/2004 which again i think is about 23 foot. I have just bought one.

Hi Harris, and welcome to MotorhomeFacts Very Happy

Maybe you might like to have a shufty at our Beginners' Guides

, which might answer some of your questions (or raise even more Rolling Eyes )

One thing you need to check carefully is the number of belted travelling seats a van has. Sometimes, "6 berth" doesn't necessarily mean you can carry 6 people in comfort and safety.

Have you considered a Hymer? Say a 644 J reg onwards which maybe on option.

Three double beds or two doubles and 2 singles

Dealers are 12k but privately around 10k

We have had 12 seated for a meal - 4 in the dining area and 8 around the U shaped lounge - so plenty of room for the family.

Enjoy - suggest you write down a WANT/WISH list, then each time you see a van score it against this. I can send you mine if you want?

It took us 18 months to find the right van (called Geraldine), but we are glad we waited.

Best wishes

Andrew & Shirley

Hi Harris and welcome,

Must emphasise mods. point about three belted travel seats for kids - obviously the two front seats will be belted but manufacturers don't have to put them in the back - you however will have to belt your kids in.

Most likely configuration to provide three rear belts in full dinette with two forward facing three point belts and one or two rear facing lap belts. If the 5 yr old still needs a child seat check that it fits safely (on a 3 point harness) in any van you are serious about.

Luckily mh's don't crash that often but sadly mh's don't crash particularly well so having everyone really secure is vital, and the challenge is in the rear where the kids will be.

Lots of stuff on here about child safety (seats, belts etc) over the past season if you search for it.

Good luck with the hunt!
