I've been trawling in here for some time and have found loads of useful information so I thought it was about time I introduced myself!
I don't own a motorhome yet, but my father has recently fulfilled a long time dream to buy one; he's had several VW campers on and off over many years, and a few towing caravans.
He was originally planning to start looking for a used MH towards the end of the summer, with a budget of 10k, but in May he saw a 16 year old LHD Knaus Traveller 630 for sale locally, went to see it and fell for it there and then, and snapped it up!
Sadly, before he could take delivery, Dad - a normally very fit, active 75 year old - was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung, and within a week had been diagnosed with advanced lymphoma and received his first dose of chemo.
To cut a long story short, he went through a very bad time at the beginning of his treatment and we all feared the worst, but he is making amazing progress and the prognosis is now very good. he was naturally very upset not to be able to use his MH, so I promised I'd take him away in it as soon as he was up to it, this kept him going through the nightmare early days of adjusting to his diagnosis and the horrors of chemotherapy.
Last week dad and I made the inaugural trip in the venerable bus, he lives in north wales, so went spent 6 nights away travelling as far as fishguard and back in easy stages, we had the most fantastic time, not without a few minor irritations, (it is 34 years since he and I have shared a home, let alone a 21ft x 7 ft space!!!!!!)
The trip, preparation for it, and the adventures we had along the way would fill an entire book, not least working out the electrical system, getting to grips with the gearbox (a little worn in the regions of reverse and 4th I fancy!!) and the joy of being the slowest thing on the road
I am, of course, totally hooked, I've always loved camping, but i do have to say that one particularly stormy night in pembrokeshire I was very happy to be snug and warm inside the bus rather than outside anchoring down a tent in torrential rain! My hubby will not be lured into a tent since the time he got an attack of claustophobia in my 2-man in Padstow and spent the night in the car, (another story) but attached as he is to his home comforts, even he has indicated he wouldn't be averse to a little Mh outing - - yesssss!!
So.... that's me, and I hope to enjoy many more trips with my father and my husband, although not necessarily both together - i'm sure they will both understand!!
Lovely to find you all, thanks for all the help so far, and brace yourselves for a barrage of questions!
best wishes, Dee

Hi Dee, very tempted but won't say Hi again.
A very warm welcome to MotorhomeFacts.
So sorry to hear about your Dad's illness but glad that you are able to give him the pleasure of using the motorhome.
You say you've been trawling around for some time so you'll know how helpful our members can be to each other so if you have a query, however small it seems, please ask.
Hello Dee
Hope you have many happy outings with the two men in your life.
If you get the opportunity get yourself on a rally. Went to my first MHF rally last month and have booked for my next, you get to meet lots of nice people. and the chance to put faces to names.

Our advice is to use the motorhome at evry opportunity as none of us knows what is around the corner.
My best friend and brother in law passed away (totally unexpected) and this was our wake up call. We now use the m/h at least 2 nights a week after work, just to sit and read in a fav spot, or just to watch the sun set.
Enjoy yourselves
