I have been using the Road Angel 7000 for about a year. Got it from Argos. It came with OS national parks installed and I added the complete OS Memory Maps for the UK. Yes, it is expensive but much better than the paper maps I used to buy. Look out for special prices at Amazon for the Memory Maps. I use the RA for walking and cycling. Battery lasts about 4 hours if you leave it on all the time but it has a Standby button that saves the battery and easily lasts for a whole day outside. You can re-charge it from the mains or from the MH cigarette lighter as you drive along. Oh, and you can even use it as a Satnav if you want!. I find it very handy in France when driving through all those villages with 50kph limits as it shows your exact speed. So no danger of getting booked. I have also bought the French IGN maps - not as good as our OS maps but heaps better than a car-type Satnav when out walking of cycling. I would say, definitely put this on your list to Santa ! Only drawback, I should point out - it can be difficult to read in bright sunlight. I get some funny looks as I read the RA shielded by my coat or hat !!

If you have a Nokia mobile phone running the Symbian OS you can download an application called Viewranger (www.viewranger.co.uk) which displays OS maps. If the phone has GPS built in it's dead easy, if it's not built in you can use a bluetooth GPS to link up with the phone.

I'm using it my Nokia 6210 Navigator phone and it's great.
