It seems that there are quite a large number of sites offering `Free` WI FI
it may be that when each of us books in to a site in the UK we mention the amount of FREE WI FI`s available and see if we can get some of these rip off merchants to change there methods of digging into our pocket at every opportunity.
Please keep your sites coming, its still not attracted any UK site owners yet, would love to hear their comments and excuses for the exorbitant charges been made by some!

The point is that people are out to make money and will try every possible way to achieve this. If they can get people to pay quite high sums for a service then they would be suckers not to charge this amount.
The idea that prices should be fair seems odd to me. For a start to whom should they be fair, the supplier or the recipient? What forms the basis on which we judge them to be fair?
When we provide a service for others, including our paid work, do we all sit there and say "am I providing a fair service for this person/company" or do we try to maximise the amount of money we can get? I was always out to get the best reward possible.
Why should we expect others to be more altruistic?
A good example is a very common complaint - the price of Tesco fuel. Hundreds of thousands buy Tesco fuel every year so the price they charge can't be too far out can it?
No one is forcing anyone else to shop at Tesco so if you don't like their methods/prices then just go elsewhere.
I have no brand loyalty, I look around and try to get the best buy at acceptable quality

I've stayed at camping Roquettas a few times and the WiFi is pretty good, it is their own system and was fitted when the long termers requested it. It is cheap, compared to some of the Spanish sites who use Delfynet or other big providers, which is expensive and often unreliable. The site I'm on now uses an Ethernet cable system is 25euros a month and traffic limited to 3gb a month. I for one think it is overpriced and fortunately have a USB booster and can pick up an open channel from outside the site
Pete
Further to this some sites do have an open channel usually near reception or the camp bar and sometimes both. If you plan to use WiFi it can be a good idea to have a wander around with a WiFi detector or your lap top to check for open channels and then try to get a pitch as near as possible and in line of site.
A USB booster can be bought for around 40euros and can soon pay for itself.
What is a USB booster, how much where from and does it really work ????

I think that perhaps you have missed my point
I believe along with a large number of others that the national campsites are ripping off their own members by charging exorbitant amounts for a service that cost them a negligible amount...
the only reason I can see of CC to charge these high fees is that
1 whoever negotiated the original terms were not looking out for their members or perhaps were given an inducement.. just my personal opinion
2 they got taken to the cleaners by the company who installed and runs the network, if that's the case the person responcable should have been sacked.
I`v been in business for over 30 years and can see when someones being ripped off..
obviously you cannot see this.. you don't happen to be employed by one of the large camping clubs by ant chance?

The municipal site, Olympe at Charleville-Mezieres has free wi-fi. Fast but not much range. I had to go to reception to log in.
Also the municipal at Metz but again limited range.
