Can't vouch for the newer model, but mine does not do postcode search, except when sorting routes out via PC. No voice commands - bleeps at you when new direction pending. Screen is small but you get written directions - short & to the point.
Each to their own - I don't like voice commands & I always familiarise my self with any route & use GPS as back up.
Walking - still use map & compass have GPS for all it's extras - tracking, geocaching, precise odometer etc.

Recieved the adventurer 7000 few days ago - so far really impressed. For work the full postcode search has been excellent - right to the door (in an area like the lakes that's a really huge benefit). I'm no longer an aggressive driver so the safety camera info is a bit O.T.T. for me - but I'm really suprised how accurate it is (I really hate those guys in the vans ) - warned me about 2 'hidden' vans today.
Took it up onto the langdales today & the 1:50000 OS was very accurate - not the scale I'd usually walk to - but in bad conditions I can imagine it's an extra level of peace of mind - esecially in some of the National Parks I'm less familiar with. For people who like to explore new areas & get off the beaten track it seems a very good option.

I climb mountains for a hobby and am on the fells pretty much most weekends
I hope you dont take that poor dog with you KelKat as i bet he hates walking
I use an old Magellan Hand Held GPS which i have had for some years. Its purpose biult for walking with the breadcrumb trail facility etc ( i know thats old hat these days) and a get me home feature which is what you need if you get lost. providing you tell it where home is before you start out.

Drcotts - Sometimes it feels more like Pushka takes us walking.
Pretty sure the MH is starting to know it's own way to the NT campsite at Langdale as well.
The 7000 was more for when we're stopping over somewhere & fancy 10 or 12 miles & may not have a map with us. In reality I don't expect to get lost (but you never know) - but I might well want to look at or base a walk around, the sort of features that you only seem to get on an OS map - but that may just be me trying to stick with a more hi-tech version of what I know. Yesterday the 7000 had me within feet of the damn on Stickle Tarn - so good for the age old "where the h*ll am I?"
