Does Outdoor Bits have a telephone number other than 0845-8698940? I pre-pay to call all uk areas at any time on my line. This does not cover 0845 numbers and I get charged extra for these. Consequently I avoid all 0844, 0845, 0870 and 0871 numbers as I end up paying twice for each call.

I'm sure many prospective customers are in the same boat and would appreciate an ordinary area code number. They are also listed at 01452-531053 but that appears to be a wrong number.

I have emailed Outdoor Bits twice so far but am still waiting for an answer from them.

try www.saynoto0870.co.uk gives you all the generic numbers which are then included in packages.

Hi Greenie, That's where I got the other number (01452-531053) Unfortunately the householder there has no knowledge of Outdoor Bits.

Hi

I've moved this to "website help", which might be more appropriate Wink

You could PM Nukeadmin on here, who owns both sites.

I'll also draw his attention to your query.

lol sorry this is a classic case of I cant please everyone, i moved Outdoorbits off an 0870 number due to the number of complaints about it being costly to phone.

An 0845 number is a non geographical low call number of which i pay a small percentage of the call cost in order for my customers to call a number which is the same cost as a local number I believe.

Unfortunately there is no non 0845 number as i don't use normal phones for Outdoorbits / Motorhomefacts, they are VoIP Phones with no standard telephone number.

PM me your query if you don't wish to phone me and will look into it Smile

Regretably 0845 numbers are not always low-call rates. Virgin charge 7p per min for 0845 and 10p per min for 0870.

Other providers may vary.

I have read all about the companies that supply batches of 0845 numbers and can to a certain degree understand why just about every large company use them, but, I really think companies especially smaller companies are shooting themselves in the foot.

If I take everyone I know as an example it seems most have a bundled telephone package that allows unlimited calls to geographical numbers, so the difference is effectively a no cost call versus a call at a minimum of 5p a minute.

Since most calls on an 0845 prefixed number involve listening to music and pushing buttons for an unlimited variety of unwanted options, being told how important you are, waiting in a 10 minute queue and then getting cut off, I find paying 5p a minute somewhat frustrating.

I now don't enter into business with any organization that I cannot contact with an geographical number if at all possible. I wonder how much office time is lost in this way and how many people think, I'll make that call from work !

I have found that most government departments will call back.

What is that squeaking when I walk ?

Its equally notable that when companies want new business you can call an 0800 number. When they have your custom and you have a query you have to call an 0845/0870 number.

Certain MH manufacturers only have geographic numbers, not 0800 for there Customer Service.

the thing is dipsticks if a customer has an issue with paying 5p a minute to call me they almost certainly aren't going to be a customer who will be spending a lot of money with me Wink

ODB/MHF Has two options when you call so its a quick throughput, the problem that does sometimes happen is that I am busy on one call when others come in and then cannot answer, but that would be the same regardless of what number i had Smile

For the "majority" of my customers a local rate phone number provides the best result.

With an 0800 number i would be in a situation where again some packages or mobile phones do not include them and also some of my phone calls from "mhf customers" i.e. people subscribing can sometimes take a while as we get chatting about the site and they ask questions and queries about aspects of it, and with an 0800 number if would actually be paying people to phone me up to chat lol
