Hi,

I can see there are lots of posts from other members asking for advice on awnings for specific motorhomes. Could anyone pass on any suggestions for an A class vehicle - 2.3m in height?

Many thanks in advance,
JCH07

I cant help much with your question but we too are looking for a drive away awning. Weve seen some at shows and on ebay. Weve seen ones that attach to the roll out van awning, they slide into the outer edge of the awning rail. The ones weve seen on ebay talk about a figure of eight attachment strip but I dont know what this means.

Weve also seen ones that have straps that go over the top of the van, dont fancy this much as weve got alot of stuff on the roof.

Look at these people's website http://www.driveaway-awnings.co.uk/index.html, they are really nice folks and will give you loads of help and information.

There's even a good section of their site on attaching awnings to vans including a picture of fig. of 8 moulding.

Edit
We have a 2 year old Motordome Classic for sale but it will only fit PVC's not coachbuilts. The fixing points are too high on a coachbuilt. The Motordome Excelsior is taller and made for coachbuilts.

Thanks for the advice all. In fact I rushed out and bought one from Riversway Leisure - Mobil 300 or something. We put it up on site and it was way too big and the curtains were very flimsy. Took it down and returned it to Riversway.

As there is a greater range of lightweight porch awnings for caravans, a few people have suggested buying a caravan one but making sure that the height is right. Our height is 2.8, less a little for the height of the awning would still put it at over 2.7 and most caravan awnings only seem to go as high as about 2.5.

So far disappointed with the range of lightweight quick erecting porch awnings I've come across.

A caravan awning would not be any good as you would not be able to either fix it to the van or drive away from it.
We have just bought the Harringtons awning from Discovery, the quality looks very good and it will fit up to 2.5m high.
To fit into the slot on a Fiama awning you need another piece of kit which fits into the awning slot and the figure of eight channel.

Hi Have a look at the KHYAM range. They are good quality, easy to erect but more expensive than the others you have looked at.
We have a Khyam Motordome and are very happy with it.
regards Chris

Hi

We have a Dorema Highlander 2 awning, which will fit up to 275cm high.

Though we have used it twice, on both occasions we haven't attached it to the Motorhome. first time we put it up, we had it covering the habitation door. Second time we used it, we put it up away from the door, mainly due to the fact we had to chock this side of the van lifting it way above 275cm

To be honest, if you are attaching it, you will need to perform some precision parking if you move your van.

Even though we only used it twice, once in Antwerp and once at Lake Garda, we were able to put it up in about 30 mins.

We found that we didn't really need it, as we only really go away in the summer...another one of those must have purchases that we don't really need Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

It is now for sale on Ebay Embarassed Embarassed
