just seems such a waste of space on the smaller vans IMHO
I think it's one of those things that "looks like a good idea" at the show and first trip away "oh my god, what have we done" as they fall over one another and plod outside in the gale for things they would normally store inside.

We wouldn't be without the fixed bed and changed our m/h for that reason and are very happy with our choice.
We have a fixed corner bed and this can be lifted up from the inside to access the things stored underneath. To be quite honest, I wish that I had a garage but it would have to have a good carrying capacity (weight wise)
I know it takes a bit of room, but up front we have swivel seats and a full dinette.
This is what makes us all different as what suits one person may not suit another
dropped in Wednesday as had to take the toad back to Milton Keynes for warranty work. Stayed 3 hours.
Quiet, very few people about
Quiet, fewer than normal accessory and add on stalls
Quiet, no outdoor camping or boating
Brownhills/Hymer were there in force and lots of smaller manufacturers
My view is that there were a lot more top end big buses with all the bells and whistles at very high prices and a fair few more smaller conversions suitable for car replacement every day as well as motorhoming.
I think its a sign of the times, they are expecting lot of people to have more leisure time with redundancy and or pension money to spend
On the garage debate I saw a number with garages accessible from the living area. I have a Falir 7000i which has a huge grage and a bed over but no accessibility. I am thinking about how to acheive it
For the first time I came away with nothing, so it was a successful show
I looked at the time table ahead, there are simpley too many national, regional and local shows so much better that the sales groups stayed at home except for one per year. Any one wanting to buy at Lowdhams, Brownhills or any other major player in last ten days and next five whilst they get the stuff home and catch up paper work is going to get poor service
The shows and show orders must completely mess up delivery as well
Finally the first custom converted motor home mt dad had was a 1972 Commer Autosleeper in cream and green with a raisng roof RKU 886J. There was a classic on show on the Todds stand same model RKU 887J. Brought back memories.
We went on Thursday and it seemed quiet. The accessory stands were spread out and we missed quite a few because they were in the "tugger" end and we didn't want to be seen near those types To be honest I didn't see them on the map and I was looking for a hall set out just for them, (which I seem to remember on the adverts was what it was supposed to be like).
What stuck in my mind was the price for van conversions, some were over 50 grand! Amazing! What credit crunch?
We also noticed that Autotrail have not been able to improve on what is the very bestest van on the road, apart from one or two very minor cosmetic changes, so that was pleasing to have our choice validated

Most certainly and there are so many variations that to generalise is only going to cause a mega thread in here.
Walking the shows we so far have come to the conclusion that bed over the cab is very efficient for a smaller van. But we do pay for it in fuel, probably very heavily.
I'm not going to like this, we do 25mpg say 30mpg for a low profile. We'll be doing 4000 in April. So 160/133 or about £864/£718. Oh maybe not too bad but if some came up to use and said "here's a couple of hundred pounds extra spending money" we'd be well pleased.
