Hi, as the winter is closing in, we have only been out in the M/H approx every two weeks, mainly to give it a drive and charge up.
On coming to start it, on the first turn of the key, the stater motor just wizzes round with out engaging, on the second turn, it engages and it starts very easily.... does anyone have experience of this problem?? What do I need to do? Is it something I can tackle myself at home. I have a good tool kit available to use.
many thanks

Hi
It sounds a bit like the engagment gog is sticking. When you start the motor the centrifugal force causes the cog to spin and travel up a shaft to engage witht the flywheel. It may be that the cog is stick on the shaft till its been moved.

if you can take the motor out and greas the shaft and bendix spring area with copper grease. Ity gives you the chance to have a look at the morot generally and clean the contacts up anyway to aviod future problems.

Phill

You have just described an old inertia type bendix and they don't use them anymore.

pre engaged is what is used now , you may be right about the dryness but don't use copper slip it goes sticky and hard with age
