Excellent idea. I've seen the sort of camera you show in your picture on Ebay for quite a reasonable price. What sort of a mount did you use?

I made my own with a length of threaded rod (5mm) drilled a small hole in a locker base and covered the threaded part with a length of black platic tubing, a plastic clip supports the PP3 9V battery that powers it! (must find some way of dropping 12V to 9V,...save a fortune on batteries)

Its a simple mater of connecting a multimeter in series with the supply, measuring the current, then doing some calculations, so V over A = R. V will be 3 as that’s the volts drop required, divide that by the current to give the resistance value of the resister. You could then do another calculation to find out what wattage resister to get, so V times A = P. This time its 3 times your current to give P which is watts. Smile

Having gone through all that, the chap who I got my 'reverse image' cameras off, said that the input voltage tolerance is good enough to accept the vehicles 12volts (can be plus another couple of volts), but for the sake of 20p or so, get a resister in series.

Aha, Steve - you forgot to take away the number you first thought of...!!!

Joking aside (I'm a duffer at electronics, though I understand what resistors and diodes do), can anyone (Steve? Please??) suggest the resistor codes (as available from Maplins) for a range of small appliances that we may have in the motorhome? I'm thinking of 12volts down to 9v, 6v and 3v, with various small wattages. I have a small power supply that does this, but it's an expensive way to supply downrated voltage to several fitted appliances.

It would be a good little reference for the future.

It's good to have you back, Steve, and with such useful answers too.
