I've discovered a very underused site in the heart of some beautiful countryside

The site is Rother Valley Camping and Caravanning, described here:

.
Frank Holt is the owner, and he is prepared to give a discount to members of MHF (similar to that given to Caravan Club members).
The site is rather 'unprepossessing', with an entrance that is a bit offputting (round the back of what used to be a pub, past a caravan storage area, and a few static caravans) but then it opens out into a large field with very pleasant views over the Rother Valley to the hills the other side.
The electricity points are round the edgeof the field, and views are available from virtually all pitches.
There are some small, non-electric pitches in a sheltered coppice alongside - very nice on a windy day, but they have no views.
The site was only half-full last Bank Holiday, and this weekend we were the only people there - amazing!
The toilet block is 'adequate' (very clean but a bit old-fashioned), but facilities for motorhomes are difficult, and require emptying the waste tank using a bucket or a very long waste hose!). Water filling is OK, as is the toilet emptying.

The chief asset of this site, however, is its' location...

The location is a right next to Northiam Station, of the little K&ES Railway, with steam trains that run between Tenterden and Bodiam (see here:

) Train times can be a wee bit 'elastic' as it's an enthusiasts-run steam railway. Very picturesque.
There is also a boat-hire and ferry rides to nearby Bodiam, on the River Rother just a few minutes walk further on, and also fishing.
Bodiam Castle is a very pleasant 4 mile walk along the river path (a reasonably good, level path, but three stiles) with the opportunity to walk one way and train or boat back again - or walk both ways if you're energetic! Bodiam Castle is (in my view) the most beautiful castle in England - a real mediaeval castle, with a moat, and all it's outer walls intact. (See here:

Great Dixter (see here:

) beautiful house and gardens, is in Northiam village and about three-quarters of a mile away.

The area encompasses Rye and Hastings, and dozens of pretty Sussex villages and beautiful countryside around. Shopping in Tenterden is available courtesy of the steam railway.

There is a restaurant opposite the site (not visited by me), but the village (and gorgeous pub) is over half a mile away.

There are other camping sites around, but none that I know of that are as ideally situated as this one.

As I've pointed out, the site isn't the most m/home-friendly (as far as facilities go), but it is the location that makes it a bit special and well worth a weekend (or longer) visit. It's worth putting-up with the deficiencies of the site for it's ideal location.

Don't forget to mention MotorHomeFacts!

EXCELLENT!!

I was looking for somewhere to overnight either after the Classic Camper National, or the Southern Mini Days in Kent.
Looks like the ideal spot for me!!
Shall make the most of the Steam Railway too!!

Cheers for the information.

(like the photos too!!)
