[s[align=justify]I run an old Citroen H van which I converted into a camper about seven years ago. I have toured most of Europe in that time and have found a simple way of staying cool. I have 2 of the dash type fans which are popular with MH users, on these I drape a damp flannel which I freeze in the ice box of the fridge. You will be amazed at the affect.

I think this is the type of evaporative cooler that George Telford uses and highly recommends, as it uses such a (comparatively) small amount of electricity through his inverter.

Surely the problem with this kind of cooler is that they add to the humidity and this is the real "killer" on hot days.
That said, one of the things I do on hot nights is to drape wet sheets across the windows. We always close the windows and draw curtains during the day - to the amusement of neighbours- but at least the inside of our house is cool.

I think George has already mentioned that they aren't as effective on 'high humidity days'. Not all hot days are like this though, particularly the further south you go, and we often get hot, dry days in this country (the last, I think, was in 1827...!)

Bought it from Maplin Monday, returned Tuesday!!!,enough said???!!!!
Returned ours too, after trying it out.
Put it in the 'van, checked the temp, filled it with (loads) of ice and set it going for an hour.
One hour later the temp had gone UP by one degree and it wasn't even a sunny day!
