i have an all singing all dancing Alpine DVD/Sat Nav/Radio system in the van but do a lot of walking and cycling off road. i wanted a handheld system to use out of the van. All the handheld computer based systems were out because of short battery life.
i bought a Garmin Quest from GSD Navigation, near Reading, tel 0118 9710630,

they were reccommended by mauramac on this site because she got a system from them which she soon realised wasn't what she needed. GSD changed it for a system that was better suited to her needs with no problems.
my elder son uses the Quest incar & for geocaching. his wife travels on business & uses it in car for hire car from airports and getting around strange cities.
my younger son finds the screen too small for in car use but we are going up to GSD later this month, when he gets his new car, and they are going to let him road test a couple of portable systems.
i went to Birmingham city centre for the first time 2 weeks ago. used the Quest to find my way round on foot - fantastic. it has a 20 HOUR battery life. GSD were selling it at £50 less than Halfords' 'Special Offer' .
i'm off to GSD today or tomorrow to get another Quest for son & daughter in law so i can have mine back!

Navman pin300 is the best thing I have ever bought, works as a car GPS or with memorymaps and OS maps loaded on is the best tool for walking IMO. Easy to use, very visible and under £400 what more could you want
