After considerable faffing around (Technical term) and some help from Stuart at the end, the forums notification is now available for use.
What this means is that at the bottom of each forum now is a small link to the bottom left which simply says "Watch this forum for posts", if clicked a small message is displayed that says "You are now watching this forum."
what happens next is if anyone posts a new post / replies to an existing post in that forum then you will receive an email with the username and content of that post, exactly the same as the normal forum topic notification emails.
This is usefull firstly for mods to track individual forums without having to live on the forums
it is also useful as a means of creating an archive of posts locally in your email inbox
and finally its good for people to keep track of going ons in certain forums sections when mobile / on hols etc and accessing the site via low speed links
It all seems to work ok but if anyone finds issues let me know
