Hi,

My son is going to America next week with the scouts, and is wondering how to charge his mp3 player and phone whilst away.

Can anyone advise a suitable solar powered charger for this purpose?

How long do they take to recharge, do they work, are they reliable, portable etc?

I realise that there's lots of questions here, but I'm looking for a recommendation for a suitable device/supplier.

TIA

David

or maybe a newer version that they have just brought out.

Hello David.
Are you sure the existing UK supplied charger won't work in the states?

Most of my chargers have a voltage span of 100v to 240v. Razor, phone, laptop, camera charger, etc. etc.

He might just need an adaptor to plug in.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

I think the problem is that they won't have access to mains power where they are camping - kinda wild I understand.

He's not that bothered about the phone, but wants his mp3 charging as it has an internal battery.

Just had a thought though - they are hiring people carriers and a van to get about - so they will have cigarette lighter sockets!

Thanks for that, it may be the answer!

Cheers

David

OK David.
And yes the van 12v charger would obviously be the answer.

But Americans are rarely far from a power point even in the woods. We watched some guys turn up to play some mamby pamby game of 'rounders' in a vast state park and plugged their cool box and radio into a tree. There were outlets all over the place.

Out of interest take a look at this. http://radioshack.lenmar.com/RS/

In Chester there is a music store with a Tandy counter in it,it must be one of the last concessions.
Since Carphone whorehouse bought out Tandy Maplins have really taken off, but I do miss the old Proops stores.

Never liked Tandy, can't say why, but never bought from them.
