We will be watching this tour for more info as it becomes available. Please don't ask what I need to know as I don't know at this stage. The timing is probably right (as is the location) but the cost may be an issue for us and is likely to be the deciding factor but please consider us as interested.

The first question that I have is how many extra days would I need to include if I were to drive to and from Calais for the start and finish of the tour. I know that this will be a three day drive for me but will the 20 days of the tour finish at, for example, 9am or 9pm. I guess what I am asking is what dates will be my 'inclusive' holiday be to and from if I were to start from and end at Calais.

No Sandyhill, not discriminating [inating] against Full-Timers. Rather and unlike UK rip-off, my business phone system in Spain lets me ring UK landlines very cheap.......and Skype is free.........

Hi Cronkle......So 6 days needed on top of 20 day tour.....erhh, Mmmmm 26days I think Wink . Back in mainland Spain around early afternoon day 20.

If as suggested you ask at info@desertdetours.com you will get full itinerary and an extensive, 30+ page Q&A.........much too big to post here.

Ray

Thank you Ray Laughing . I think you understand what I mean't Twisted Evil . So, I would have to allow for a full twenty days with no flying starts on the run down and back. I know what I mean although it may be a mystery to everyone else Confused .

Thanks; it sounds more do-able so we shall have to see.

Is this going to be the same route as the May 2010 tour we are already booked onto?? ...........Tina & Glenn

Hi Tina and Glen………..No. As you know we now run 5 different routes [not tour dates, that’s in fact 11] in Morocco each year. Inevitably this may mean that we have to re-use main-route sections now and then. The MHFacts tour is exclusive in most of the route and certainly content. And it may not have been made clear [but is on the itinerary] that this tour is very much a “Two Destination” trip……..With 5 spectacular days in Spain at the start of the tour…….see below…..I have lifted this from the actual itinerary [which is to long to copy in full here but is available in full and with an even longer Q&A doc]……

DAY 1 [Formal Campsite]

Meet at Malaga Monte Park Campsite. You should aim to arrive on Thursday 27th May.

You can arrive any number of days earlier by arrangement.

This is a rural campsite situated on the A404, about 6k east of Alhaurin El Grande and about 18k inland from Malaga. Details can be found at www.malagamontepark.com .

DAYS 2-3-4 [Formal Campsite]

We will remain at Malaga Monte Park for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday during which time you will be introduced to the nearby town/white villages of Alhaurin el Grande and Alhaurin Del La Torre, the Guadalhorce valley and the overlooking Sierra de Mijas.

Introductions and briefing will take place in the Venta [restaurant] adjacent to the campsite during the second evening [Friday] when a Spanish style meal and live entertainment will be provided.

A guided walk into the nearby Sierra de Mijas can be arranged for Saturday or Sunday [Depending on minimum numbers and is FREE].

Again depending on minimum numbers, but at extra cost, a “Safari” style Quad Bike trip can be organised. This involves a 4-6 hour off-road guided ride into part of the Serria De Las Nievas National Park, then along the Rio Grande and includes refreshments on route and after. A similar horse riding tour can be organised.

For a more relaxing time you can visit the nearby towns/white villages of Alhaurin De La Torre or Alhaurin El Grande. A regular bus service runs to both towns from the campsite entrance……but we are working on the possibility, and it is very likely we will have, a FREE mini-bus service on standby for the 4 days.

ALSO

Over this weekend Alhaurin El Grande holds it’s annual Feria which centres around a MASSIVE Fair and Community celebration. Events for the 2010 Feria have yet to be announced, but will likely follow earlier year’s programmes. For example, the 2009 feria featured huge covered street parties that included, at some locations, free drinks and food. A number of street parades were held around the town. During Saturday and Sunday evening Flamenco, live music and traditional entertainment was held in a number of very large marquee structures around the fairground, entrance was free! Within the Feria ground a large funfair runs into the early hours with the final evening [Sunday] being brought to a close with a huge firework display [around 01.00].

For those inclined there is of course the inevitable Bull Fights, featuring well known matadors. This takes place in an erected arena adjacent to the fairground.
There was also an [unofficial] early morning “Bull Run” through parts of the town……Both are of course “Optional”.

During the weekend the Bull-Fighting arena was also used for a “Cuban Rodeo” and a Picador and Spanish style riding and horse display.

And there is much more info info@desertdetours.com

A more accurate translation of Alhaurin El Grande would be "big valley" --Al Haur is "the valley" in Darija (Moroccan Arabic) and El Grande is "the great one" in Spanish.

Sounds an interesting trip though...

You could well be right Tim...... Laughing

Some, a few, say title "Garden of Allah" was given after the Moors left and I am told is on an old version of the town crest........Nothing about the Moors [Ancient Arabic/Berber having anything to do with the translation as far as I am aware and certainly nothing to do with any Spanish translation......and there would not have been any "Modern/Moroccan Arabic" involved in anycase.......there was no such thing at that time Wink .

Most agreed history is that after a golden age which became a little tarnished during the time of the Visigoths the town, although in no danger of disappearing, was in decline. It was not until the Moors took it on and built it a fortress on a hilltop called Tarries de Fahala [That is just a few 100mts from my own house] that it began to move again. The Moors also gave it a new name: Alhaurín (Garden of Allah). ....etc etc. However, most historians consider the name originated from the Arab word, Alhauerin, which means Almighty God [Allah?].

But what do I know? ...... I only live in Alhaurin and my Classic/Ancient Arabic is well rusty Rolling Eyes .

..

Ohhh Eck! It sounds like we might have to book our return place at the camp site in advance, and stay on a bit to see everyone and say hello.

No chance of getting our post Marroc laundry done in peace this year, but at least no puppies (fingers crossed Shocked )

I would so love to do this trip. I have a particular interest in the Moors as they could build a church and then let other religions have part of it. How refreshingly civilised compared to today.

But there is no way the CEO would even consider such an adventure but I will be glued to this site watching hopefully the blogs. I can't wait to see it get started.

May I make a suggestion which of course is a bit cheeky as I am not part of this but get in touch with Channel Four or 12 yard productions as this would make a simply riveting documentary especially if it was done in reality format.
