This info. from a local magazine, which may be of interest :-

"To find the serial no. of your celluar phone, key in the following on your mobile phone: star hash zero six hash (*#06#). A fifteen digit code will appear on the screen. This no. is unique to your handset. Keep it somewhere safe. Should your phone be stolen, you can call your service provider and give them this code. They in turn will be able to block your handset so that even if the Sim. Card is changed the phone will be totally usless. Whoever stole it cannot use it or resell it. If every body did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones anymore. THIS REALLY DOES WORK !. This may be of particular use to those of you that have teenage children, since they seem to be the ones at greatest risk of having their phones stolen."

While I will be doing this in spite of the fact that I do not use my phone very often. I find them very expensive. Do you know I put a £5 card on my phone in July 2003 and I only have £1.57 left.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,
John

Sorry to spoil the party, but this only works on newer mobile phones. It is possible for the thief to reprogram the phone and change the IMEI no on older phones.

Also the list of stolen phones database is only maintained by UK providers, thus there is still a market for stolen mobile phones in Europe
