I don't have a problem with dogs - I just go to campsites where they're forbidden, whenever possible.
The same rules apply for kids.
Granted this does narrow down my choices somewhat but at least I know I'm going to have an enjoyable, stress-free holiday.
As a benchmark I expect kids to behave like I did. Okay, so I was a chuffer which meant I probably didn't have the energy to run round all hours of the day screaming my lungs out, but at the same time I did have respect for my surroundings which I hope would have been maintained even if I hadn't been so fat.
I've been to kid-friendly sites too many times where our privacy and peace has been infringed by mini louts and their wayward ways.
Adults only sites are wicked, and we generally meet the sort of people we like to socialise with at these places.
The only times its inevitable we come across holidaying children are when we visit folk festivals. And for a strange reason people patronising these events have an uncanny knack of keeping their brats under control. Which is nice.
Tolerance is one thing. Nuisance is another.

Maybe this topic should be re-titled with parents or owners instead of kids or dogs!!! In my last post on this matter, i voted kids and on the whole i stand by this vote, but i have agree that it's the parents whom are at fault, they seem to think that as they are on holiday they have a divine right to relinquished all responsibilities and it's a free for all for everyone. I have two children, Vikki 16 & Rich 19, when they were younger and we had a caravan, we would often let them take one of their friends with us, making four kids and the dog. They've all had their moments of bad behaviour, which was always quickly nipped in the bud and if any of the other campers had cause to tell them off we would march them straight over to apologise, that, along with an explanation that other people were on holiday to enjoy themselves just the same as we were, and they, like us, didn't want to be upset by other people's bad behaviour, usually did the trick, as for the dog, he was told to get in his BEEEEEEED!!!
Sadly, not all parents and owners are good role models, but to those of you whom are, a big THANK YOU for helping others enjoy their time away.

During June/July last year we did North Wales, and thoroughly enjoyed it, during the trip we stayed at the Bali C&CC site, we being my wife, the cat and myself, all was well until the second morning, after breakfast the cat (Fudge) decided he wanted to go and have a look round the site local to the van, I duly attached his lead, poked my head around the door to make sure none was watching (it doesn’t much for your street cred to be seen walking a cat on a lead!) coast clear so took him outside, got to the fence and all hell broke out, a white Scottie shot out of an awning two vans away and went for the cat, now he’s a Burmese and can be quite nasty, he went absolutely berserk, he was one ball of fury, being on a lead he could not go anywhere.
He went for everything in sight, the dog, me, and the fence post, I stupidly tried to pick him up, I came off worse, I tried to put a coat over him, I came off worse again, by this time I have severe scratches and bites on both arms and legs and covered in blood and I do mean covered, the owner finally took the dog away and after a short while the cat dived for the M/H
After a couple of hours we went for a drive much against my wife’s wishes, we had been out for an hour when my arm, wrist and hand stiffened up so much that I found it increasingly hard to drive (I said you should have gone to the doctors she said) I found a local Police station who directed me to a doctors surgery with a large car park,
The nurse kept me waiting so long that I eventually passed out in the reception area, I came round to two Nurses and a Doctor with an Oxygen mask on my face, my wife coming through the door and an Ambulance being called.
They carted me off to Wrexham Hospital where I was given an ECG (clear) whilst there I had to informed the Police that my M/H was still in the car park with the cat inside (I did not know if they were going to keep me in) they said they would look after it.
I was eventually released from hospital that evening, and had to get a Taxi to the M/H £25.00. I stayed on site for the next three days.
I don’t blame the dog, I don’t blame the cat and I don’t blame the dog owner as we have all relaxed at some time or other with our dogs and pets, But what did annoy me was that not once did the owner of the dog ask after my well-being despite walking within three feet of him on three occasions over the following few days. He could not mistake me I was like a walking mummy with the bandages.
What was the question , Children or dogs? I wouldn’t be without my kids and I still like dogs (Labs)
