Just a quick question. I have seen a Hymer B544 for sale and I am quite tempted. I noticed that despite being first registered in 2005 in Germany (that is where the van is now) it does have the rectangular style headlamps rather than the round ones. Can anyone help and offer an explanation? Is this likely to be an old model or can you still get a new model with the rectangular shaped lamps? Thanks

Hi Rapide561

Yes, we've seen several examples for sale in Germany and considered buying one but just bought a Hobby instead!
The story (from the dealers) is that these are old stock models, probably 2003 or earlier vintage that have been knocking around the forecourts unregistered (I suspect that they might be old stock clearout direct from Hymer as there are so many of them around). They all seem to have been out on hire this year after being registered in the spring and the asking prices are quite attractive. German dealers have had a poor season and they are trying to clear stock to improve liquidity I hear.
All depends what you want, on the face of it these vans are very good value but of course they are old models and resale price will be lower. It would be interesting to know what the DVLA attitude might be when registering one of these vans, they are first registered in 2005 but built two or three years earlier, are they therefore a New Means of Transport as defined by the Customs?
