Just been away for our first trip in our newly acquired campervan. We went down to the New Forest and had a fantastic weekend.
There was only one negative incident when we were turned away from a campsite because of our campervan. Cossie, as we call her, is a converted Transit and without extra windows or a pop-top she does tend to resemble a tradesman's van. Is it common for site owners to refuse entry to certain types of vans?

Somewhat snobby reaction - if it happens again, open the doors and show them the fittings inside, you don't have to have windows & fancy graphics to have a useable 'van.
hope you have better experiences with sites in the future.

Hello

Not a very nice thing to happen especially on your first trip. Perhaps you should name & shame the site here. Was it a forestyry commission site? What reason did they give you?

We do have trouble with the other sort of travellers that are somewhat unwelcome because of the damage, mess they make & leave. Maybe they thought you were one of those & would later be followed by dozens more. I would do as the previous poster said & open your door & show them you are not one of that unwelcome sort. Just an ordinay citizen wishing to park up in reatively safety, legally for the night.

It has been known that the CCC will not allow business vans onto their sites. IE vans with business addresses logos etc painted on the side. They can park outside in the visitors car park. Daft init.

I too was down the New Forest on Saturday bumbling around Hythe and Lymington and Beulieu or what ever. Hythe has a mariner where you can park and watch the ships go by right by the waters edge. I have a pic to post when I get around to it. Lymington had a street market on and there were some interesting items for sale and for some obscure reason we came away with what looked like a pot found on a dig for only £7. I understand it is to put plants in and placed in the garden for me to fall over. Our friends also bought a pot. What is it about women and pots. Must be a great business to be in making pots as women will snap them up.

My motorhome has never been turned away from a site but I think it only a matter of time before the driver is turned away.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind naming and shaming, it was the Lytton Lawn Touring Park in Milford on Sea. I got the feeling that is was because it looks like a commercial vehicle but didn't stick around for an explanation. I don't think we were confused for travellers due to my broad Aussie accent. We ended up returning to the place we'd stopped at the night before, the Red Shoot Camping Park which had a fantastic pub that served their own real ale.
Can't wait to get away again soon. Hopefully it was a isolated incident.

Hi
A shame that happened on your first outing.

Not really sticking up for what in this instance seems a bit unreasonable. But on their booking form it does say they are not able to accept commercial vehicles and I guess as a business they can impose any rules they wish. In this case they should have interpreted them differently but as it was such a large site, the sort of place you will never catch me on if I can help it, you were unlikely to be met by anyone with any common sense, in fact you were more likely to be met by a Jobsworth.

I did nearly run a couple over and I hope to God that was not you otherwise I will never live it down. I will post a pic shortly and you will be able to see if it was. I was parked in the diabled bit because the couple we had with us are and had a sticker. I should have stuck my pennant up but as it was a day trip I forgot to do it.
