Yes, this is as informative as their website gets on that score:

"Unless it is specifically mentioned, the SkypeOut Global Rate is only for calling regular landline telephones. Calls to mobile phones are more expensive."

Calls to mobiles If I remember correctly are around 12 euro cents a minute to europe, north america, australia etc. I found the rates somewhere on their site or maybe I contacted skype and asked the question. It was a while ago now. All I know is the costs using skype out are not worth worrying about. I use it now all the time to call friends abroad. You have to buy a minimum of 10 Euros worth of credit at a time which lasts for a period of months before it runs out and you have to renew. No different to most mobile accounts. Quality of calls between PCs can sometimes be a bit scratchy depending on the time of day and how busy the internet is. It is free so you can put up with the occasional hiccup and disconnection.

Dave

I have just tried a Skype out call to my mobile (Orange) for a 1 minute duration, the total call charge was .41 euros. (point 41)

I can’t say as I agree with you with regards to scratchy sounding calls, I use skype every evening and get a crystal clear contact, on the odd occasion when there’s been a problem it was due to badly set up equipment and has been corrected, this does depend of course on the broadband speed, if you are on the slower one, any multitasking does affect it.

I don’t of course how others hear me, but so far no complaints and all my calls have been in the UK

ken,

Thanks for that experiment beyond the call of duty! That sounds expensive to me. And perhaps explains why, when I quizzed my sons at Uni about Skype, wondering why it hasn't found more favour given so many in their circles are on broadband from home, they answered they were aware of it but it wasn't in much use.

The critical enabler of the younger generation's social life is the mobile phone.
