Has anyone been to the Lower Lacon site near Wem in Shropshire? I seem to remember reading some good and bad reports of this site.
I'm itching to get away for a few days, not today 'cos it's lashing down Sad and Wem is close enough for a quick getaway.
Beaconsfielf Park is also fairly close, any thoughts on that site too would be useful.

Our one and only visit was about 10 years or so ago with the caravan. We pitched and went out in the car, came back and some one had parked so close we couldnt get the car next to the van to park, they wouldnt move and the management wouldnt shift them - definite fire risk, honest. we aint been back, Oh and the bar was noisy at night, other than that the site itself wasnt too bad, has a swimming pool - outdoor!!

Never actually stopped there myself (bit too close to home!) but have friends in Welshpool who use it & really like it. Have also read letters in mags from others who love it. Very Happy

We did look there when we were looking for a motorcaravan as they sell s/hand ones & advertise in our local paper but they had nothing that inpressed us in our price bracket at the time. Crying or Very sad

Banjo, just had a thought, have you considered Oxon Touring Park on the outskirts of Shrewsbury? The facilities there are spotless & you can get the Park & Ride into Shrewsbury for shopping & sightseeing.

Many thanks Caz and Dodger,
Not heard of Oxon Touring Park, will give it the once over as soon as I can persuade myself that spring is almost springing!
As I'm a bit green with all this motorhome stuff I spent the day yesterday looking around various dealers in the north west. Went to Brownhills, near Blackpool and Stewart Longtons and then to Barrons on the way back. Saw a few nice things but nothing that shouted 'buy me, buy me' thank goodness. No disrespect to the dealers but I've come to the conclusion that buying a Motorhome is the same as buying a car - they always tell you how little this particular model will depreciate, until, that is, you come to part ex it back.

One van I did like was a Burstner 530 (I think) really clever design with loads of storage and a bike rack that can be lowered down for us small persons. I'm not desperately looking to change but I do need to broaden my horizons... Laughing

You missed the best one in that area, or best at this time of the year (cos its all undercover and warm) and a good selection of vans - Todds

I got both my vans from Brownhills Newark, but I dont think they have the same levels of stock or quality range at Preston

Campblells have a place not far from there, not the caravan one, thinks actually Kirkham area. Marquis also in Preston.

if you ever come back this way then as dodger says, Todds are probably best to visit 'cos they're completely undercover, mainly AS with a new area for Swift, and a little feature on Nu Venture [another local firm].

Brownhills took over the Hymer dealer and their stock used to be primarily Hymer and Hobby, there are several garages in the area with stock of 2nd hand vans, presumably Brownhills are selling on the less flash / salubrious models.
Marquis on the Preston dock area have a reasonable selection, all out of doors but they do have most excellent coffee coffee2 shop full monty breakfast particularly good value, but accessory franchise is small.

Campbells used to have a separate mh place but now I think it's back with caravans on the way to Blackpool - accessory place used to be reasonable size if a bit too caravan based. [Used to have Lunars ]

Barrons you've seen [I always think they only went into mh there 'cos they saw marquis make money]

Haven't tried Brownhills in Newark since they expanded for the nth time, bought our mondial from them and still have membership card so dropped in for cuppa at last show we went to Shame on you

it's all good fun providing you don't take it too seriously - how about a private deal instead?
