The bad gale force winds of Saturday, brought down my huge amateur radio antenna and landed on the roof of our beloved Benimar. Unfortunately, it broke one of the Omnivent covers (which I can replace), but it also punctured the main roof in 2 places. I put some Duck tape over the holes for the time being but how do I repair these holes? I think the roof is aluminium. Any help appreciated

The trouble with aluminium is that it needs etching paint to paint on it (to last). I suppose it depends on what your looking for, one advantage is that its above most peoples eye sight.
My earlier suggested repair was for a far bigger hole than what I now know is only tiny hole, which would have required some finishing as well, so have removed my earlier suggestions. However as you may be going the dealer route, be prepared for a shock and don’t put your insurance papers away just yet.
Gaffa tape/duct tape degrades over time and leaves a horrible mess which is difficult to remove. So I would suggest removing it and using electrical insulation tape which if it leaves anything behind, can be cleaned up with some spirit. Don’t rip the tape off to enthusiastically as it may pull the paint off, warm it with a hair drier if necessary.

Thanks for the replies. Our home insurance does cover damage like this but of course we have the dreaded excess of £200. The holes in the roof are close together and about the size of a 1p. I rang the Benimar dealer and he said to take it over for an assessment but I think it would'nt be cost effective to claim. I will see when we take it to him. I would like a proper job done on it though, I have a conscience.

This is just a thought, and without looking at the damage it's hard to gauge whether this would work, but if the damage is very localised why not look into this:
Some dealers sell a 'blanks', that can be used to cover holes from removed TV antennas ect... I think they cost about £10 or so, and are plastic discs of around 25cm or so. They are designed to go over the 'hole' and are secured with Sikaflex 221. This I think would provide a good repair which would be cheap. I'm assuming that the damage has occured on a flat area not too close to the edge.
Again, without seeing the roof it would be hard to tell, but it would be worth a go!!!! [/i:f5ad517080][/b:f5ad517080]
