I have an old Canon E500 camcorder which I have resurected to enable me to view some recently discovered some lost tapes.
After recharging battery, stripping camera to get tape out ect. to try & power up I eventually discovered a little CR battery. Replaced this still no joy. It did initially start up after re-assembly (with old internal batt) & played some clips, but when I tried it again later on, nothing, even with new internal batt in. Anything else I could try?

Ahhhh try again.
I have a similar problem Tel.
My old Sony Handycam vintage 1988 has died and looks like it's heading for the bin.
Apparently the 'heads' are now defective and it costs more than a new camcorder to replace.

But I still have 8 Video 8 tapes with lots of old memories on I would like to transfer to another media.

Ray.

Hi Ray. I think it may be something to do with the internal software that is powered by a small battery. I think if the internal battery dies & is not replaced within a reasonable time eventually you lose the software program so preventing start-up. I will have another try on the Canon site.
