It's just as well that I'm quite a relaxed kind of person Cool otherwise I'd have got VERY cross both with myself for going onto the bloomin' grass and with the lady from the farm for sending me there!

The wine was great, though it hardly touched the sides and the shower was luvverly - I looked like a mud wrestler beforehand!! Laughing Not a pretty sight!

Like I said, it's all character building stuff.

The site at Oxon park was very nice so it wasnt a total disaster.

Oh dear Banjo, an experience I'm glad I missed. Sad

Pleased you enjoyed your weekend after such an inauspicious start. Smile

A friend has just bought a new caravan & is booked into Oxon for this w/e. They only had super pitches left so I declined the offer to join her but we are going on Saturday afternoon for a cuppa & to check that she's pitched correctly & not made a fool of herself. She is used to tent camping & had a folding camper last year but it will be her first outing with an all singing all dancing brand new Bailey caravan so it could be interesting. At least she'll be on hardstanding! Cool

Oxon is a nice site - we went the weekend before they officially opened, free & with free electric, a special deal due to our being customers of a local caravan dealer - I think they were using us as guinea pigs to make sure it all worked! Rolling Eyes Silly me, it was the first outing of the year & I forgot to get the leisure battery on charge, we had dim lights for about 20 mins from the towing charge then it went dark. That caravan only had 12 volt lights, there wasn't a zig unit to charge the battery from the hook up & I didn't even have a candle with me! Embarassed So it was straight into Shrewsbury next day to buy a table lamp.

Phew!
Glad I'm not the only one who forgets to do things. Yes, the site was nice and they had a super area for dog walks and a field where they could be let off the lead.
There are some really big oaks near the site and I heard a woodpecker on both Saturday and Sunday morning. I couldnt see the bird so I'm not sure it was in the oaks but it was certainly there somewhere.

The only teeny weeny little moan for me was the traffic noise from the by-pass. Sad With living so close to the A55, traffic noise is a bit of a 'thing' for me and the fact that I work for a Highways department. I try to get away from the din when I can.

I promised I wouldnt tell anyone on the site.....but the nice lady on reception put me on a super pitch for the same price as an ordinary one.
Perhaps she was scared I'd mud wrestle her to the ground if she wasnt nice to me!

Ciao boyos and girlos Cool

(It's my new Welsh/Italian identity)

We've been stuck three times to date.

The first time we tried our ribbed plastic grip track but found it totally useless, it just gets spat out of the other side of the wheel! Being very cold we settled in for the night and took the gamble it would be frosty in the morning. It was, so we used the fact the ground was now very hard to get out.

The second time we got towed out, after failing to get anywhere by backing up levlling ramps then driving off fast - which has worked numerous times in slightly sticky situations. We got a tow from a Jeep.

The third time (a few days ago) we tried everything we had including the £50 Grip Track product advertised in MMM. This is like a rope ladder with studded plastic sections that stick in the tyre, and grip the ground. It didn't work, but did allow us to put a lot of torque down before the wheels finally slipped so we haven't given up hope on them yet. It was particulary wet and boggy.

I prefer the idea of snow chains or similar, where you effectively carry your grip track as you move. The problem with any board, track, etc is that once you're off it you risk coming to a halt and starting all over again.

Our Eura Mobil 690 is particularly useless offroad, being tag axel, front wheel drive and weighing a full 4.5 tonnes. I'm not sure even heavy snow chains would drag those rear wheels through mud. In our case, we'll have to stick to prevention until we can find ourselves a comparable all-wheel-drive motorhome with retractable type spikes :-

I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, but wasn't it someone here who advocated a sort of "rocking" motion with the wheels and some graduated blocks or something?

I can't remember the next bit, hopefully it will jog someone's memory or confirm that I am insane.

Incidentally there's an electric winch on towsure.co.uk for £169. Looks like a good deal! Ben, if you buy two it will handle up to 5000kg!

I may have misread that, you might just need to get two cables.

some excellent advice here... must admit that I was a bit worried about a CL we stayed at near Chapel Point, Lincs... but we got out OK.
