Hadn't realised that E11 is defunct from 1st Jan 2006. You can order the new card one on the National Health web site. Says it takes 7 days, got mine in 3. Be aware!

If you realise like I did that you are about to travel and it's Christmas i.e. the card won't arrive in time, don't worry. Phone them and they will give you a deicated phone line to ring from abroad if there's a problem befpre your card comes through.
