Found on the Motorcaravanners web site

Quite a few of our members travelling to Spain this Christmas have had attempted and actual break in's in their vans and trailers, these have happened around Perpignon heading towards the border of Spain on service area's ,truck stops and opposite a police station.

According to the police the theives are well equipped with all kinds of cutting implements and tools to get in your vehicles.

Yep - bears out Andy's First Rule of travelling in Europe:-

NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OVERNIGHT ON AN AUTOROUTE (OR SIMILAR) SERVICE AREA - ESPECIALLY THOSE NEAR BORDERS.

If I was a lowlife intent on robbery I'd pick a busy area with quick escape routes and a nearby border to escape across which is full of exhausted drivers . Preferably one with lots of cover provided by, for example, high-sided lorries. Now let me see - does anywhere come to mind?

We are, however, completely protected by our highly trained Attack Spaniel who will, in the event of any attempt at a break in, endeavour to silently lick the intruder to death. Easy for the police to find the criminals - look for the ones covered in Spaniel slobber.
