Just some practical hints:

There are some rumours going around what you may do in Scandinavia with a motorhome and what not. Especially regarding "wild camping" or overnight parking. Some of them involve what is called "Allemansrättan" or "Anybody's Rights". Ignore them. Here are some facts:

Rumour: You are allowed to camp whereever you are in the wilderness.
Fact: In Sweden and Norway this is basically true, but only under some conditions:
- You may not have any motorized vehicles with you (this includes motorhomes)
- You are limited to 2 nights
- You may not be more than 2 people
- You may not leave anything (garbage!) behind
- You may not damage anything or break any wood for fire
- You have to keep a minimum distance of 150 metres to the next inhabited house
- In Sweden it is not allowed to stay overnight in some national parks (watch for signs at the park borders).

Rumour: In Denmark it is forbidden to stay overnight in motorhomes outside of official camp sites.
Fact: If it is not explicitly forbidden, then you may stay for one night on a car park or lay-by. Remember: [b:818a88ae75]Stay[/b:818a88ae75], not [b:818a88ae75]camp[/b:818a88ae75].

Rumour: You may go everywhere without any limitation.
Fact: First you have to respect private grounds, of course. So no camping in other people's gardens. Second outside of private grounds you may really [i:818a88ae75]go[/i:818a88ae75] anywhere, as long as [i:818a88ae75]going[/i:818a88ae75] means [i:818a88ae75]walking[/i:818a88ae75]. Because with (motorized) vehicles it is strictly forbidden to go off-road.

Rumour: Alcohol is very expensive in Scandinavia.
Fact: No rumour, it's just true. Sad

[quote:818a88ae75]I will look at it, however we do tend to travel independantly whenever possible, maintaining the theory that we can go where we want, when we want and stay for as long as we want to.
[/quote:818a88ae75]

So basically, you may go where you want, as long as you leave your motorhome on the road, respect local bye-laws and don't stay too long on the same place. Common sense is needed here.

Some more practical hints:

I have never seen a fuel station up there not selling diesel. However there are some (mostly the cheap, automatic ones) which only accept special national credit cards.

The more you go North, the less fuel stations you will find. So use every opportunity to top up! I missed that once and we really found the next one running on the last millilitres Embarassed . And keep in mind: Especially in rural areas shops and fuel stations sometimes close at five'o'clock!

In Norway you will find many sanitary stations for motorhomes where you can dump grey or black water and replenish fresh water. Many of them free of charge. Most of them are indicated on road maps and signposted locally.
In Denmark you will find such stations on most motorway lay-bys. Free of charge.
In Sweden you will not find them. However many lay-bys (not only on motorways) have toilet facilities. And quite some of these toilet houses do not only have the standard 3 doors (do it standing, do it sitting, do it with wheelchair), but also a fourth one called "Latrin". Here you can dump your toilet cassette. (That is one of the occasions I use the toilet tank to carry away our grey water.) Fresh water can be found on most fuel stations (Look for "Vatten").

About Finland I have no idea. Not made it up to there yet.

Gas may be a problem. So far I always started with two 11-kg standard German propane bottles filled to the top and never ran out of gas. However 4 weeks was my maximum so far.

When you are up there in August and see a C-class Euramobil with a Dutch numberplate, just knock on the door. It may be me. Smile
Other Dutch Euramobil owners travelling to Scandinavia this year: Please forgive me when somebody knocks on your door late at night... Laughing

Best Regards,
Gerhard
