I had a very strange experience lately on my return to the UK. I was stopped at passport control and invited into a little office by British immigration to answer some questions. They took my passport and scanned it into a computer and started asking me some very strange questions like "What is the purpose of your visit to Kent?" and "How old are you?" and "Where did I learn to speak English?" I actually gave a wrong answer, because I told the I was 41 when in fact (and I now know), I'm 42. It didn't tally with my date of birth on the passport. After a few questions it was obvious that they thought I was a bit strange and because I have a very Welsh name I think they thought I was Arabic or something. I don't know many blonde Arabs, but I suppose the immigration people have to treat everyone the same. It became obvious that they has a record of all my previous trips to France (mainly on business) as on Eurostar I think they scan the barcode on the passport. On the one hand it's nice to know that the country is safe from terrorism, but I collapsed laughing when the immigration guy told me they thought my name was foreign.

Has anyone else been interviewed by British immigration ?

More worrying, has a motorhome ever been used for suicide bombing by the Welsh ?

Never been interviewed despite having an unusual name, very dark hair and being Welsh, though I always feel guilty coming through 'passport control' - why is that?
