Hi guzzijim as I understand it the whole point of the reversing legalislation was that you must not get out of the towing vehicle, to be able to reverse your trailer/car. Therefore an "A" frame cannot comply with the rules.
Hi Olley, you can with my A-Frame.

Anybody thought of experimenting with a lightweight jockey wheel bolted to the A frame for those times when you may have to reverse in a hurry. Would also be useful driving forwards to connect to motorhome. Just a thought. The only downside is that it would make the A frame bulkier and heavier for stowing when not in use.

The brakes may not be a problem, but what about the front wheels on the towed vehicle, unless you put on the steering lock.
I have reversed with mine for a few yards with no problems, I think if I tried to get it in to a specific place it would be a problem, but it is ok in a straight line.

You do NOT put the steering lock on when towing on an A Frame. The front wheels have to follow the curve and direction of travel of the towing vehicle.
The cars tracking allow the vehicle to run straight in a forward direction. In reverse it becomes a hopeless situation. The towed vehicle going very quickly to full lock.
It's very quick to unhitch, disconnect the 7 pin plug and reverse both vehicles seperately then rehitch.

Quote from earlier mail-
'the whole point of the reversing legalislation was that you must not get out of the towing vehicle, to be able to reverse your trailer/car. Therefore an "A" frame cannot comply with the rules'.
We are not talking about towing with steering lock on, but may only when reversing as an aid to stop front wheels of towed car doing all sorts of weird things.
Any how it seems the legislation on reverse permitting trailer brakes changed in 1981?? So it seems that unless your towed car, now viewed as a trailer when connected buy an 'A' frame is older than 25/26 years old the new regulations apply. (see an earlier mail)
