Whenever I use a web-based route planner ( ViaMichelin, RAC, AA etc) I enter my ferry crossing as Dover to Dunkirk. Without fail the route is then planned for home to Dover, Dover to Calais ferry crossing and then Calais up the coast to Dunkirk and Dunkirk to destination.

Don't these route planners know that there is a Dover to Dunkirk ferry service or am I missing something?

Sounds like they don't. Have you mentioned it to them?

I've used AA and Via Michelin a lot and find them both pretty good - I've never been sent half way round the world, as in the news reports. Michelin helped us get round Norway and also big chunks of France. I tend to ask it to work out sections of a couple hundred miles, then pencil in on a real map and see where it takes us. I usually agree!

Great for working out distances, I'm useless at doing that on real maps, tend to be hopelessly optimistic!

Hi G

We usually put the start in as Calais (or in your case, Dinkirk) no probs

(we know the way to Dover/Folkestone now!!)

Easy for us too to find Dover.
We just go E for Peterborough, pick up the A1 and head S for the M11 -------> Dover.

When using a routefinder we just start the route from Calais or Dunkerque as the case maybe.
I usually use viamichelin.

I'm happy to get round this, as we usually do, by plotting the route from Dunkirk and, yes, we do know a selection of routes to Dover but it still surprises me that the route planning people have not yet added Dunkirk as a ferry option.

You're right though Beagle. I haven't written to tell them and I will do so right NOW ! I just wondered if I was missing some subtle way of inputting data so that I got the Dover -Dunkirk route.
