Our 5 year old Honda EU10i, regularly maintained, recently failed to start.

Removing the side panel reveals three transparent tubes, all pointing downwards, all open-ended.

If I pinch the end of the one on the right hand side between thumb and forefinger, the genny starts ok, and if I leave it running for a few seconds I can then remove my fingers and it continues to run.

Anyone got any idea what these tubes are for, and whether something's gone awol from the end of the 'pinched' one? It looks as if it was attached to something originally, as the open end is flared.

Is this link any good. The side cover is on / off / on if you wait and you can see the 3 hoses.

Thanks for that, but it doesn't seem to answer my question, ie what do the hoses actually do, and why does my genny start if I block one of them?

Just thought somebody might know.

Thanks

Nigel

if you read the link there is a message saying they are happy to answer questions, so why not give them a try?

1 is a drain the other 2 seem to fit on to a y shaped fitting. could be from the sump to the intake to burn off oil fumes. Like on your car.

Had` exactly this problem-I checked the oil OK- BUT later found out it looked ok but was slightly too low- cut out switch stops engine. Try add little oil and restart. If the oil cut out switch is doing it you will see a small short red light- best done in shadow or dark to see- in sunlight you miss it.

Thanks Maxy.

Amazingly enough a member called Zulane on the Yachting and Boating World forum also had the same problem in April 2006.
http://www.ybw.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-86942.html

And he made exactly the same series of spelling and grammatical mistakes as you did . . . in fact his whole post is identical in every detail.

Wonder how that happened . . . quite a coincidence, eh? Shocked
