Hi,

I am in the middle of purchasing a new MH from Germany and I understand that I will need to change the settings on the head/fog lights in order to conform to UK regulations. As I will be travelling around Europe and I was concerned that if my very small headlights are set to UK standards will I be able to drive in Germany/ Europe? I would have thought it would be dangerous?

Any help would be appreciated.

Samantha

hi samantha

the lights on lhd vehicles don't dip to one side. that's why you don't see foreigners with bits of tape on their headlights when they come over here.

i have imported 2 vans. the first one i had the speedo dial changed. second one i had the whole speedo unit replaced.

first time i changed the lights but second time have left them. will see what happens at mot time.

the fog light & reversing lights need to be changed. i like 2 fog & 2 reversing lights so i had the reversing light changed to a fog light and then 2 new reversing lights fitted.

none of these things have to be done before you register the van in the UK. they should be done before you use it on UK roads though.

I don't think there is, I have seen many posts here about using lens covers with blanked out area on the lens cover (we have them for when we go abroad)

However, I do find it odd that someone by now is not producing some sort of headlight design that with a flick of a switch you can change from left to right ha drive (wonder how the big Artics are doing it when they travel between the UK and the continent

So if I fitted continental lights to my Renault Trafic would it pass a UK MOT? That would save a lot of mucking about over the life of the van.
