Since Van Bitz fitted my Waeco dual reversing camera, it seems to develop a problem on average every 6 months - or maybe it just feels like that.

In November I had the connections tightened between the camera and the screen, which eliminated the 2blue screen of death" which I seemed to get intermttently on the close-up image. Since then the brightness of the image on screen seems to have deteriorated, and for the last fortnight it has seemed really poor.

I have tried adjusting the brightness on the monitor, but this seems to have a very fine tuning adjustment, to the extent that either it's dark, or there is a flare on the image.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so did you find a cure? I can't say that I really want to drive to Taunton again.

Smick

Hi Smick, I've had exactly the same problem for a couple of years after a fit by Vanbitz. Living so far away I haven't had the opportunity to get it looked at but now booked in on the Monday after the Shepton Mallet show. Sit tight and I'll let you know.

I have had intermittent problems with ours for a while.

It started with the long-distance view - starts flickering, poor contrast/brightness and then blue screens.

Switching to the close-view and back usually clears it for a short time, but then sometimes it gets so bad that it blue screens on both views.

Despite being an electronics service technician I have baulked at tackling the problem for a couple of reasons.

First - it is so intermittent that the fault knows not to present when I can work on it ie at 110 kph on the Péage!

Second - is it the camera or the monitor? Would need a replacement of either for elimination purposes.

Third - I installed it myself and cannot be hacked to remove the cab headlining again.

Fourth - I don't have any circuit diagrams.

My technical opinion is that it is likely to be the video switching IC in the monitor that takes the two video inputs and selects them according to the button presses.

If you sort yours out, please let me know - it sounds like it might be a common fault.

Thanks to both posters. I have had the screen replaced after the first year, having had a succession of blue screens, at a cost of £130, (Heavily discounted I have to say), then had occasional blue screens, which then of course could not be replicated when I took it in. This time, it appeared to be the connections to the switchgear.

It appears that this particular product is either not at all robust, or it's temperamental, neither of which attributes does anything for my blood pressure, as I hate things that don't work properly!

Our system was fitted in March last year and we lost first the sound then the picture (completely). Van Bitz tested the monitor and found it to be faulty. It was replaced under warranty.

We now have a picture (quality variable - quite dark and lots of flaring especially at night) but still no sound! It has been suggested that it could be a blocked microphone but cleaning it does not seem to have made a difference so far. We keep the van in storage so I have not had the chance to check it since the weather warmed up.

Another trip back to Taunton may be needed!

OK then - I will have at the bl**dy thing in the next week or so.

I will set the monitor up on the bench with video inputs and try the heating/cooling trick on the pcb and various ICs to try and get it to own up!

I am shocked that the waeco cameras are having problems. In my experience Waeco are one of the best systems out there.

Have you check the camera its self for misting etc, (Water ingress) that also could cause issues.

Phil

No, it is not a misting up problem.

It is definitely an electronics problem (I have seen enough in my career) and there is no obvious tie-up with the weather.

It is just so intermittent.

I had a Waeco system fitted at Vanbitz at the end of last year. Driving home, the image was fine during daylight, but as the light faded, car headlights gradually blurred into a mass of light so that it was impossible to distinguish one vehicle from another and the screen became a distracting white glare. No amount of fiddling with the settings made the screen any more useable.

Not being familiar with such systems and living in Essex, my options were a bit limited. After some phone exchanges between me, Vanbitz and the German suppliers, the screen was declared to be from a batch that had been associated with other reported faults and was required back in Germany for testing.

A fault was (presumably) confirmed in Germany and a replacement screen supplied to Vanbitz - unfortunately it was the wrong size.

I have now received a replacement screen direct from Germany - hopefully the right size/fitting. I haven't been able to refit/test the new screen yet because the MH had to go back into storage before it arrived.

Fingers crossed......

Mike

Edit: I should have mentioned it was the RVS790 twin lens system with a 7 inch screen.

I too have recently had the single lens Waeco camera fitted and it seems to have the same problem as described by
Loughrigg Mike's post. ie circular, foggy white screen in the dark.

I took it back to The dealer yesterday but they thought that it was ok.

I'm new to reversing cameras so don't really know how good a night image should be but it's almost impossible to see anything less than 2 feet away from the camera in the dark. Can anyone enlighten me??

Thanks, John
