I am not so sure !

I have an Amstrad (Sky supplied) Sky+ box and that will not record without a Sky card in the slot!!

I don't think so Barrosa.

You can get a Freeview card and watch the Freeview channels but you won't be able to record.

I have a Pace Sky+ box and I cancelled my subscription and was then unable to record or view previously saved programs.

I had to take out a minimum subscription which has now increased to £19.50 per month. ( No Film, Sports, Discovery Documentaries or History channels)

I considered a Freesat or Freeview PVR but Sky+ is so user friendly I decided to wait until there is a good alternative. If anyone knows of a good Freesat or Freeview PVR as easy to use as Sky+ let me know.

Its a "Freesat from Sky card" (one off £20) not Freeview, but the EPG is mainly the same as the Freeview channels.

Seems a bit of a cheek to me that you are sold a box with recoding facility and they, Sky, can switch it of at will. I believe that if you by a sky plus box the leased you should be able to do is record the free view channels. I'm sure there must be an electronic wiz-kid that could find their way round that, but where?

You can watch the limited SKY channels with or without a card.
You CANNOT record with or without a card.
You will have to take out a SKY+ contract at what used to be £9.95 month. Now probably £10.50 a month with the VAT increase. You do NOT need the minimum package. The SKY+ contract will also allow you pause live TV and set up series links for favourite progs.
Without the SKY+ your box is effectively a basic SKY box.

What you get extra with a Sky+ box is a hard disk, the PVR facility is programmed via the card over the satellite, unlike a Freesat+ box which is hard wired.
