Acer Aspire 5735 won't connect to the net on Sky router most of the time, when it does it loses it after few minutes (as do I) it sees the router OK 3, 4, or 5 bars most of the time.
My laptop sat next to it usually has a good connection.
I have done an ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt, but it say access denied , so I did it without the txt demand and did a screen dump, but I cant get the acer to stay online long enough to email it to my laptop so I can post it.
Try closing all your anti-virus, spyware and other such programs and see if that makes any difference. If not, look at what other programs are running and close any down that you don't need. It is also possible that it is a software problem with the wireless adapter so try repairing the adapter and updating the driver through wireless connection settings. It could be a hardware problem with the wireless card or aerial that would be more difficult to resolve. I found I was losing the connection on my Asus laptop if I moved more than 20 feet or so from the router. In the end I found that one of the aerial wires that goes up into the lid was snagging on the hinge. I had to remove the screen bevel in order to re-route it.
ps could of course be a router problem. Does it happen on other routers?
Kev , read my earlier post re wifi problem.
Why is it so difficult
After over 4 hours on the phone and getting knowwhere I uninstalled the sample Macaffee security.
Within second perfect.
perilbro and Ken38 were giving me good advice. Ken even spent hours on the phne talking to me. At least I could understand him

In some routers you are allocated time for your IP and sometimes it locks you out - rebooting resets the allocated time. I prefer to use a laptop or another computer to go into the router and reboot - pulling the plug is the other way

Happy Holidays to everyone for 2012
The above is only a personal opinion
I have tried powering down the router, no luck there.
I have yet to try un-installing macafee.
Laptop is no further away than mine which as you can see logs onto the net easily.
I have to say that "this" Acer Aspire has been odd from day one, doing strange things, some I can attribute to the very over sensitive mouse pad, others seem to just happen with no input.
I have helped 2 laptop users that have had dodgy wifi cards inside their laptops. I could have spent hours taking the laptops apart but in in both cases I gave up on the internal card and bought them a wifi dongle. As cost was a consideration the one I used came from Ebuyer and it certainy is cheap at £9 but don't let the price put you off, it works a treat.
P.S ask around Kev, see if you can borrow a wifi dongle or an old PCMCIA Card ( if there is a slot on the lappy)
... lots of folks have one lying around unused ...from the days when laptops did not have wifi built in.

You can turn off the oversensitive mousepad if it's giving you grief, you have to deselect 'Tapping' in the mouse properties. Stops it launching random programs as you move the mouse around.
A few other ideas. Try changing the wireless channel(s) in the router setup - move it to a channel as far away as possible from the current one. Also if you have security enabled (WEP, WPA) etc, try disabling it and see if that has an effect. Make sure that the router is not near any other wireless devices such as cordless phones and try turning off all other laptops / pc's / wireless printers etc to rule out an ip address conflict.
