For the last 2 weeks we have been in Austria and as a backup to a new freestanding satellite dish I took out a one months subscription to Adtelly for £5.50.

This is a vpn service that means you can watch bbc and itv programmes and use the iplayers because you connect to the bbc/itv websites via Adtellys UK based server rather than direct from, say, the Austrian campsite isp's server which would be blocked.

There are lots of these services available for about the same price or a bit more but I chose AdTelly as they have an active forum where you can go for help if required. There are some free vpn services but these can make unethical use of advertising and are not necessarily UK based.

Of course, you need to have a laptop and an internet connection with a half decent download speed but as we were on campsites that was ok and you don't have to have the connection on the all important Sunday evening as you can catch up during the week if more convenient.

In the end the dish worked well and we only had to use it once, in Kitzbuhel, where it worked perfectly.

You can also use it to watch US tv and you can use the vpn bit on it's own if you want to secure your wifi link for banking etc.

If you "need" to watch UK tv and might be travelling outside the footprint of your satellite setup then have a look at this.
