We are considering changing our 2006 Starspirit 2.2HDi for a 2008 Starspirit with swingwall shower and a 3.0 litre Multijet engine on a Peugeot X250 chassis.

The main reason for the change is to get a larger shower room where my 6'2" frame and broad shoulders stand a fighting chance of a half decent shower!!. We love our 2006 model Starspirit apart from the "wetroom" type shower room.

We would love any comments or advice from owners of this newer Starspirit model with the swingwall shower room and any owners of 3.0 litre Multijet engined M/Homes.

In particular, are there any known problems with this engine/gearbox combination and that I should be aware of and what could I reasonably expect in the way of MPG? I average overall around 28/30mpg with our 2.2HDi engine. The mileage on the M/Home we are interested in is only 9300 miles and one older owner from new.

Looking forward to your comments for which many thanks in advance.

Rgds

Hi both,

We have an Autocruise Augusta - we bought it new last July and it still has less than 2k miles on the clock.

It has the 3.0 litre multijet engine with the 6-speed gearbox.

So far its been very good - we tow a Citroen C1 and the van has so much power that towing the car is no effort at all. The gearbox is as sound as a pound!!

The van climbs hills extremely well - I suppose the 'biggest' hill so far has been the one skirting Exeter climbing up to the race course - I only had to drop it down one gear (to 5th) and it sprinted up the hill.

So far, I'm very pleased that we went for a van with the 3.0l multijet engine. The fuel consumption is less than I hoped for at about 25 mpg average (motorway and urban roads) but I think this may improve as the engine loosens up / runs in. I think I'd be pleased with another 4 / 5 mpg.

We're off touring France for two / three months this year so I'll have a better idea then on how the van is performing in terms of mpg. As for acceleration and pulling power - I'm very happy - the van is performing better than I'd hoped for.

Hope this helps.

Brian & Sue

PS: I have lots of opportunity to make comparisons as one of my little part-time jobs is delivering M/H's for my brother in law. We'll be taking 10 / 12 up to the Chepstow show later this week. I haven't driven one yet that I prefer to my Augusta.

hi
we have a 58 reg s/spirit , 2.2 6 speed,on the whole we are very pleased, a few niggles at first (i am sure the dealers send them out with a few faults, gives us something to play with).
done 17000 now, thats with three trips into europe, and another 1st april. never done a fuel check on it, its our 4th van, and it just feels that the fuel consumption is ok.

clutch/gearbox mod done by peugout, no problem.it drives like dream, dont think you need a three litre ??.

i am 6.2 also, and the shower is great, its a bit tight when the o/h gets in with me ,to save water that is , Laughing Embarassed

We have a 2008 Swift Bolero (Fiat based, X250) with what I assume is the same 3 litre engine. We get around 26-28 mpg in a low profile 6.5m van. Have had no problems with engine or gearbox, but ours is the auto version. It has more power than you will ever really need, but that makes for a relaxed drive.

The clutch/gearbox mod has not been done on the M/Home we are considering from a private seller, and it is 3 years old in May this year.

Rather than chance buying it and possibly having problems getting the work done under the Peugeot warranty, maybe it would be better to get the current owner have the work done as a condition of sale?

Is it only in isolated cases that the 3.0 litre Multijet engine circa 2008 has clutch/gearbox issues or is the problem widespread?

Just as an update.........

Decided in the end not to go for the 3.0L newer model. We thought long and hard and decided:-

1. With diesel nearing £1.50/litre, the 3.0L engine was maybe not a wise move.

2. The gearbox/clutch mods had not been done and the current owners were not interested to take up the fight before the warranty expired.

3. Whilst very well specced, it did not have a solar panel, a second leisure battery, satellite system. More money to spend.

4. Thinking all things through, we realised just how well our Starspirit suited our needs, how perfectly it was specced for us and how reliable it has been.

Thanks for advice and comments.

There are no mods for the 3 litre. If it happened to be faulty it would just be described as being "within tolerances" to get you to go away. I was not aware that Peugot sold a 3 litre version, Alan.

Nor me alan- would be interesting to discover if Peugeot's stance is the same as Fiat's-they were certainly more accommodating as regards the 2.3

Anyone on here with a Peugeot 3litre with judder problems??

This is the link to the eBay advert which has now expired.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300 530505112&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1159

The picture is of a Peugeot and the ad says a Peugeot with a 3 litre Multijet engine. Is this an unusual combination?
