Hi All. Shirley has had a look in her holiday diary and as a matter of interest.
nearly 20years ago we had a camping holiday at Frejus in South of France.

The return channel crossing Dover to Calais for 2 in a car was £114.

We used the autoroutes all the way to save time cost...£60 return.

12 nights on one of the best sites in South of France was £70.

Seems reasonable but 20 years ago that was a lot of money.

Cheers Sid

Hi Sid,

Strange as it seems, I think you do get more for your money on lots of things these days.
I remember my first Townsend Thoresen ferry to Calais (with trailer tent) in 1983 cost me £212 return!

We were on the Herald of Free Enterprise and as it was our first time, I took some pics on the cargo deck - very spooky to look at them now.

Hi All

You are right about prices and spooky pics. We returned from Calais on Townsend Thorenson Herald of Free Enterprise about three weeks before the tragedy, quite a sobering thought when it happened, we also knew two people that were lost on her.
The ticket price, we were towing a caravan then, was £276 return fare still have the tickets in our scrap book. Quite interesting when our last crossing this year was £99 return for the Motorhome and up to 5 people with P&O.
