Anyone used a USB type tuner on a netbook? We will collect our MH on the 1st and will have a few days away on the way home. I would like as big a tv as I can fit in the cupboard. So need to measure before we buy TV. So I was thinking of using a USB tuner on our netbook but I dont know if the netbook (1.6Ghz Atom processor) will be good enough or if the USB tuners are any good.

I will also be using a temporary aerial, as the one fitted doesn't work or doesn't work well.

Anyone any experience of USB tuners and Netbooks?

I've got a Compro USB tuner. Haven't used it for a year or so but it used to be fine with just a small internal desktop aerial - obviously the signal was strong where I was. Make sure that if you are running Windows 7 that whataever you buy has W7 drivers.

Just collected an AverMedia 835 USB Freeview stick with remote from TescoDirect at £22.97.

Downloaded the latest drivers, installed (did take 10 -15 mins) plugged in to our decent roof mounted aerial and tuned.

Great picture, found all the channels I expected. It's only using 20-25% of processor power and 85Mb of memory.

Picture is great but then again it is only 10.1" screen.

Overall for £23 it's great value.

Whilst it may work in a very strong signal area, do not expect such a tuner to work well in a weaker signal area using a poor indoor aerial. Standby to be very disappointed.

I do realise that we need a good signal and an indoor aerial wont work. Iam hoping that as a temp measure with an external "Image 420 aerial" it will give us a picture till I can get a proper tv and a new aerial.

Thanks for the advice.
